THE ULTIMATE AUSTRALIAN FASHION EXPERIENCE AFTERPAY AUSTRALIAN FASHION WEEK (AAFW) HAS OFFICIALLY KICKSTARTED
16 May 2023
Its official, Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) DAY 1 is underway.
For the 27th year, Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) array of editors, influencers, designers, and industry heavyweights from all over the country flocking to Carriageworks in Redfern for the enthralling 5-day event.
With some feeling dusty from the exclusive Opening Party held at the prestigious Skye Apartments Green Square the previous night, no one was willing to miss the opportunity of witnessing some of the most innovative Australian designers showcase their up-and-coming collections or observe influencers and industry experts dressed in the most eccentric street style outfits.
The day commenced with the traditional Welcome to the Country and the moving smoking ceremony which is a reminder of the unceded Gadigal land on which the event is held.
Next, we had Lesleigh Jermanus’s Alémais showcase as the first show of the week, sending a suite of lively, psychedelic sundresses and '70s-inflected shifts down the runway—a vibrant take on modern Australian resort wear.
Simply Seated’s General Manager, Luca Andolfo said, “It was a truly captivating experience, and I was inspired by the use of silhouettes and bright colours.”
Following Alémais, we had the talented St. Agni, Yousef Akbar & ASIYAM showcase their collections. One of our favourite shows was the luxurious swimwear Bondi Born which was offsite at the Coal Loader in Waverton. To add to the aesthetic – our cream benches were used for attendees which resembled sand.
To close Day 1 of Fashion Week - Michael Lo Sordo (Sponsored By Afterpay) celebrated his 10th anniversary with a dazzling dedication to French nightlife as well as launching a new element to his menswear titled - Showgirls.
Gallery I was immersed in a passionate sea of red light and with front row (VIP) guests treated to a Henricks Gin in crystal glasses at tiny round tables, with our Bentwood Chairs, Brass Café Tables and Pure Flax Linen Tablecloths, embodying the rich culture of France.
Michael Lo Sordo is committed to creating staple pieces that are whimsical in design and high in quality for the romantic minimalist women. His designs boats sophistication with their feature clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and intricate details, resulting in stunning pieces.
As an official partner of Fashion Week, Simply Seated were spoilt for choice to where to gather design inspiration from. Our partnership is an incredible opportunity of exploring the diversity of what design and style truly is. Whether you are developing a floorplan or adding embellishments to an outfit, the overall aesthetic are always the highest of priority.
We have had the privilege of curating various spaces throughout Carriageworks such as the VIP area (directly above The Hub) to the Business / Media Room, Registration Desk area, Seminar room and various designer shows.
Majority of the furniture we styled the spaces with consisted of contemporary luxe pieces in array of dark and rich jewel tones from our newest collections. We provided various modular lounge and cocktail furniture adding sophistication and style to each space.
